Unravelling East Africa’s Early Linguistic History project investigates the rich linguistic history of the crucial language groups in East Africa and a search for words that indicate earlier lost languages. These outcomes combined with recent archaeological and genetic research will contribute to a new understanding of the early history of East Africa.

From 6th to 8th June 2024, the final conference of the project will take place in Leiden, aiming to correlate our linguistic findings with those of other disciplines.

This project is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) Open Competition – SSH award, and hosted at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics.
